Sabah : Gunung Alab Resort

We made an overnight trip to my father's hometown in Tambunan when we were in Sabah last month.

One of the highlight on this drive for me is taking a break at one of the simple cafe on the highest point on this Kota Kinabalu-Tambunan road.

I was told that Gunung Emas, the first and oldest cafe which has been operating on this area for more than 15 years (I believe) is still popular - although I think they no longer serve "exotic" dishes like they used to in their early days.

But some folks prefer the relatively newer (about 10 years old I think) Gunung Alab Resort, which is a few km drive from Gunung Emas Cafe, as it is somewhat better in terms of cleanliness.

We made a lunch stop here on our way to and from Tambunan and I am happy to say that I found one dish I enjoyed here.

SOTO!


I tried both their Soto Ayam (Chicken noodle soup - Malay style) and Soto Daging (Beef noodle soup) and I liked them both. With big portion and plenty of meat - at only RM4, it's definitely worth the try if you are around this area.

1 - certainly Gunung Alab Resort provides accomodation for those who interested to feel fresh air and beautiful scenerio. I have been to this place and I appreciate its cleanliness. But apart from having Gunung Enas Resort and Gunung Alab Resort, please also don,t forget that there is also a restorant located in between these two resorts. This restorant is Restoran Puncak Azam, providing various types of Malay foods and for sure, a good alternative for Muslim. I also been there and experienced its foods. I found its sorrounding area and inside premise are clean and tidy. This restorant provides foods like steamboat, soto ayam, daging, laksa asam, nasi goreng, rojak, tuhau and lada goreang, etc. I have tested steamboat and wow! fantastic! I have also tested its soup and it was delicious too with reasonable price. This resorant also provides a surau (place for peforming prayer for Muslim) adjecent to the building. It suits the need for those Musafir in long journey to take rest and enjoy foods in this restorant. Finally, it is my humble view that the existence of these three destinations (Gunung Emas/ Alab Resorts and Restoran Puncak Azam)for sure could accomodate the need and pleasure for those who use KK-Penampang-Tambunan highway.
