Misato Japanese
Last weekend we decided to try out the Misato, the Japanese restaurant in Kiulap after a prominent local journalist claimed that this is the best Japanese restaurant around.
This place has actually been around for several years but for some reason or others, we never really got to try it (not that I was eager to!).

This place occupied one whole unit of shoplot, with an upstairs and downstairs sections. When we arrived at noon on Saturday, I was a little surprised that it was quite empty.
Hubby ordered these for our lunch :

Food wise, they were ok and I thought the Eel Tempura was good. Hubby thinks the Salmon Sashimi was very good and Eu seems to have no complain with her “fish roe”.
But for some reason, I didn’t quite like the ambience of this place. Perhaps the staffs, friendly and helful that they were, were a bit too coffee-shop type and doesn’t quite suit the feel that this place tries to project.
But then again, it’s all a matter of taste and this is just my opinion and should not be taken too seriously!
Hmm… i have a feeling that locals prefer Excapade over Misato but everytime during my visit to Misato, there are always many Japaneses customers and I never meet any Japanese customers in Excapade. So i think maybe Misato serves Jap food which is closer to the tastes of Japaneses and while locals find Excapade is more acceptable..? Well that’s how i think.
I don’t always go to one particular Jap restaurant only because i think each Jap restaurant found in Brunei has different menu. Erm i mean, some food which you found in Misato doesn’t mean you can get it at Excapade and Sushi Tei and etc.
if i wanna eat Sushi, i’d go to Excapade (they really have lotsa varieties of Sushi and really YUMMY!).
if i wanna eat Ramen, i’d go to Sushi Tei (i don’t know why but their Ramen is really different).
if i wanna eat Jap style of pasta, i’d go to Misato (well, the spaghetti is replaced by Udon mee).
i won’t say which restaurant is the BEST jap restaurant in Brunei lar..
hehehe these are what i found out lar. We brought our family to Misato too, last Sunday and my dad said he prefer Excapade even though he kept praising how tasty his bowl of Udon is haha

Hunnie : I think you are right. There was a Japanese at Misato that time that we were there! Maybe theirs is really more authentic as compared to Excapade. But I like your observation and will keep that in mind the next time I’m dragged to any Japanese joints again! Thanks
